In the United States, Thanksgiving always occurs on the fourth Thursday in November. In massively multiplayer online role playing game World of Warcraft, players celebrate Thanksgiving in late November as well. The 1 week event Pilgrim's Bounty allows players to take part in many fun Thanksgiving-themed activities.
In 2009, Pilgrim's Bounty occurs between November 22 and November 28, coinciding with American Thanksgiving. It is the next holiday event in WoW following Hallow's End.
Pilgrim's Bounty Achievements
Completing all the Pilgrim's Bounty achievements gives the player the companion pet Plump Turkey and the title "Pilgrim". It does NOT count toward the achievement What a Long Strange Trip It's Been, which rewards the player with the Violet Proto-Drake mount. The Pilgrim's Bounty event was created after the holiday meta-achievement was added to the game, so this is a stand-alone event.
There are daily quests available during Pilgrim's Bounty that involve preparing the recipes listed below. These quests give the player the choice of 5 different clothing items, or a turkey shooter gun. This gun covers the targeted player with feathers, turning them into a turkey. The achievement Turkey Lurkey involves shooting rogues from each different race with the gun.
There are two achievements that players must be fairly high level to complete. Terokkar Turkey Time is completed by defeating Talon King Ikiss, a boss in Sethekk Halls (a high 60s dungeon) while wearing a piece of the Pilgrim clothing. Pilgrim's Peril involves wearing a piece of Pilgrim clothing and sitting at each of the holiday Bountiful Tables in the opposite faction's capital cities.
Thanksgiving Recipes
Pilgrim's Bounty has 5 special, limited-time only recipes to learn. Although the recipes stay learned forever, some of the ingredients necessary are only available during the holiday, and the food itself only lasts for 7 days. The recipes are for Cranberry Chutney, Spice Bread Stuffing, Slow-Roasted Turkey, Candied Sweet Potato, and Pumpkin Pie. Learning five new recipes might help players get the Chef du Cuisine achievement for learning 160 recipes.
Four of the recipes have ingredients that can be bought from the vendors located outside each capital city. The Slow-Roasted Turkey has wild turkey as an ingredient, which can only be found in Elwynn Forest or Tirisfal Glades. The wild turkeys are level 1 critters that can be easily killed, but players must compete with others to catch them. Many players try to sell them for marked up prices, but it only takes a few minutes to catch them yourself.
Pilgrim's Bounty has several fun things for players to do. There are new recipes to learn, new quests to complete, and the chance to get a new pet.
